As Trump rebrands diplomacy as war and the courts wrestle with lawless deportations, a different kind of power is rising, from tow trucks, budget books, and bus depots.
It's always, always the dinner table economy, and Mamdani understands this. Legacy Democrats didn't/don't seem to grasp that GDP and stock prices don't mean daily living isn't a battle for fading hopes of anything approaching the American dream. Big investors, including private equity and foreigners, dominate access to housing, healthcare, higher education and other basic necessities.
Democratic New York voters are saying what the DNC doesn't want to hear: no more! Represent the majority of us who live with soaring prices and shrinking opportunities, or move over for those who will.
I am so proud of the multitudes stepping up to the plate , confront the ICE, the Congress, the so-called pres with his faux-tagalongs. This reality is worthy of applause. Zelensky showed us what real leadership is, as did Carney, Mexico’s Claudia, and Greenland ..holding their own plus to two bit delusional actors. 👏🙌👍🫶
So this is what it takes, huh?
Armed with cell phone cameras and gutsy “fuck you ICE, get out of here”…🫶 I’m so proud of you 🫶
What Trump’s administration is doing isn’t capitalism—it’s state control in a MAGA hat. When the government picks winners and losers, dictates what companies can produce, who they can hire or fire, and how they must align politically to stay in favor, that’s not free enterprise—it’s creeping authoritarian socialism. Or, if you prefer, Communism with campaign donations.
Mary, you are firebrand. And, you are spot on re: protest with teeth (not violence!).
I have mixed feelings about Mamdani. He certainly is a force. But, and a big but, he is a full on socialist. I fully support social programs such as social security to food stamps. However, these program do not compete with free enterprise since individuals receive subsidy and redirect to private enterprises. His notion of city managed grocery stores, appealing, overlooks these same would compete unfairly with private. As an aside: Ironic, the golden share the President received for the NIppon Steel buyout of US Steel is socialism.
Mamdani has (finally) changed the conversation and to me that is huge. Democrats stopped talking in specific terms about how to make people's lives better and the country moved so far to the right that what was once the middle is now considered "far left". Talking about real issues like grocery stores and transportation, and good ol' fashioned organizing got people's attention on a national level. His campaign opened a door, and I am delighted.
Towing the Gestapo vehicles! Brilliant, I love it.
rules is rules...

Thank you Mary. I’m pondering how I can be a cog in the machine. And the best most entertaining way to bug my Congressman.

I agree, but right now we have one goal: build an effective resistance to Trump and a counterbalancing power. Policy quibbles can come later. Thanks.
