Who Matters Now
Trump’s “murder bill” is a moral document, and it shows exactly who this country is willing to sacrifice for billionaires.
Good morning! They’re putting up riot fencing around the White House and Lafayette Park. You know, the fencing that says: we know we’re about to do something so cruel the people might actually show up.
They’re rushing to pass Trump’s “murder bill” before July 4, pretending it’s a “budget,” when it is, in reality, a blueprint for mass suffering, economic sabotage, and billionaire enrichment at your expense.
If this bill passes, millions will suffer. Up to sixteen million people will lose health insurance as Medicaid is gutted, leaving cancer patients, people with disabilities, and parents of children with chronic illnesses suddenly without care so billionaires can pocket another tax cut. Millions more will lose food assistance, forcing children to go hungry over the summer and seniors to skip meals to pay for medication or rent. Workers in clean energy will lose their livelihoods, an estimated 300,000 jobs in wind and solar each year, because the bill guts renewable energy credits, killing projects across the country even as record heatwaves and soaring AI-driven demand strain the grid. Electricity costs will rise, and blackouts will spread as the bill eliminates 500 gigawatts of the future energy capacity America desperately needs.
Rural hospitals will close. Affordable housing programs will vanish. Programs that protect women and children will dry up. And the message behind all of this will be painfully clear: if you are not rich, you are expendable.
And what’s the tradeoff for all this human suffering? Billionaires get permanent tax cuts, fossil fuel barons get more subsidies, and Trump gets to strut around bragging about “winning.”
This bill is not fiscally conservative. It is not responsible, it isn’t even real math. As Senator Patty Murray said, “Even preschoolers know the difference between zero and a trillion.” The Trump “murder bill” will add $4.2 trillion to the national debt, the very debt Republicans scream about when it’s time to feed a child or care for a senior, but never when billionaires want to hoard more cash.
Senator Rand Paul, no progressive, called it out: The bill will blow a $270 billion hole in the deficit next year alone, while raising the debt ceiling by $5 trillion to accommodate the ongoing looting.
And Trump and the MAGA Republicans know this bill is so wildly unpopular they’re putting up riot fencing, not because they’re strong, but because they’re afraid.
They fear you and me because they know what they are doing is wrong.
Meanwhile, in Ukraine, Russia blames Ukraine and the US for “stalling” peace talks while raining down missiles on civilians and gobbling up territory. Putin wants a two-day “pause” to collect bodies before sending in more troops, while Ukrainians demand a real ceasefire. Trump, too busy extorting Israel over Netanyahu’s corruption trial, has yet to impose the new sanctions he promised if Russia drags its feet. Russia advances while Trump wavers, and the people of Ukraine pay the price.
Because who matters?
In Kansas, the people are showing up in Senate galleries and at town halls that MAGA lawmakers are too afraid to hold. They are shouting “You’re killing us!” because this bill will, in fact, kill people.
A budget is not just numbers on a page; it is a moral document, revealing with cold clarity who truly matters in a society and who does not.
This bill says billionaires matter. Fossil fuel lobbyists matter. Weapons contractors matter.
And you? Your kid’s insulin, your grandmother’s heat in the winter, your family’s meals, the air your children will breathe when they grow up? All of that is expendable.
They are fencing off your democracy. They are fencing off your future.
They are telling you who matters.
Don’t let them fence you out of your own future.
Call your senators and representatives.
Write. Show up. Share this.
Let them know you are watching. Let them know you are angry.
They are betting you will give up. Prove them wrong.
If we do not fight back, they will win. And they will do it while hiding behind riot fencing, behind billionaires, behind their own lies.
I wonder how many times riot fencing has gone up at the WH?
I’m still preparing for this, cutting expenses , it’s bare bones budget ..in case worse gets worse. I have an advantage long ago going deep in the woods , alternative life style, still working to rally my/our/a community , strengthen the safety measures, prepare , know who’s most vulnerable, plan B, escape routes, take in who you can if and when…all done before, America. No effort is small. Remember their names. Hang on.
Thanks Mary, keep us informed .
Thanks 🫶
The brutal truth…thank you, Mary.
